Biography

Dr. Walid Hegazy has over 26 years of legal experience representing and advising clients on transactions and disputes involving the commercial laws and regulations of many Middle East countries, including Egypt, UAE, KSA, Qatar, and Libya. His expertise includes Islamic banking and finance, project financing, corporate restructuring, and corporate governance.

  • Advised Marriott on Starwood acquisition in Egypt.
  • Advised BNP Paribas on €7.2B financing of Lafarge-Orascom merger.
  • Advised STC on $3.05B telecom acquisition in Malaysia and Indonesia.
  • Structured $1B sukuk issue for Sorouh in UAE.
  • Developed hawala-based securitization structure for Credit Suisse in KSA.
  • Advised on various Shari’ah-compliant Murabaha and Musharaka facilities.
  • Advised global corporations like BAE Systems, Ingersoll Rand, Aetna, and University of Maryland on Middle East operations.
